Founder in Residence - Prime Health
About Philo Ventures
Philo Ventures is a venture studio based in Utah. We deploy up to $1M in total resources per portfolio company: cash, IP, sweat equity, and shared services; and take companies from concept to Seed-ready spinout in 12–18 months, versus the industry average of 3-plus years solo. Our full-stack team of 0-to-1 builders and operators covers engineering, design, product strategy, GTM, legal, and finance from day one.
We're currently focused on AI-native and tech-enabled B2B opportunities. Prime Health is one of those bets.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Founder in Residence to lead Prime Health, a health tech company bringing functional health testing to employees through a B2B2C model. This is a hands-on, full-time commitment with Philo's full studio behind you from day one.
U.S. companies spend over $1 trillion annually on employee health benefits, yet engagement remains stubbornly low and outcomes continue to disappoint. The people who pay for employee health have almost no leverage over results, and the people who receive care have almost no visibility into what's actually happening in their bodies. At the same time, functional medicine and personalized health testing have gone from fringe to mainstream. Consumers want to know what's happening inside their bodies day-to-day, not just when something goes wrong. Yet no one has cracked the B2B2C model at scale. Prime Health sits at that opening. The concept centers on making functional health testing accessible to employees, giving employers a benefit that actually moves the needle and giving employees the data to take ownership of their own health. Corporations buy, employees benefit, everyone wins.
This is early. The thesis is directionally strong, but the model needs to be proven. That's what you'd be doing.
What Is a Founder in Residence?
The Founder in Residence role is a long-term, full-time commitment to building a venture-scale business over many years. Not for the faint of heart. You'll be operating as the founding leader of Prime Health, a health tech opportunity bringing functional health testing to employees through corporate channels, with Philo's full studio behind you from day one. Engineering, design, product strategy, GTM, legal, and finance are all in place. You own the customer relationships, the vision, and the long-term execution, with Philo supporting you every step of the way. The FIR ultimately owns the long-term success of the company and is the CEO of the company. Philo is engaged well before and long after a typical investor would be; from the first customer conversation through the Seed raise and beyond.
What You'll Do
Get in front of buyers. Run structured discovery interviews with HR leaders, benefits managers, and corporate decision-makers. Understand what they care about, what they've tried, and where they're stuck.
Validate the thesis. Figure out whether the problem is real, whether the model works, and whether there's a version of this that companies will actually pay for, or kill it if there isn't.
Shape the product. Work with Philo's engineering and design teams to define what gets built first and why. Your customer insights drive the roadmap.
Own the narrative. Develop the strategic story: the problem, the market, the why now, the why us.
Start closing. Turn discovery conversations into first customers. Test willingness to pay early and often.
Operate in the messy middle. Prototype, sell, fail, and iterate. Finding product-market fit in health tech is hard. That's what makes this defensible and compelling.
What You Get
Above-market salary and comparable equity for an early-stage founder, structured so your upside scales with what you build.
Full benefits from day one: health, dental, and standard Philo portfolio perks.
Up to $1M in studio resources behind you: engineering, design, product strategy, GTM, legal, and pre-seed capital.
Structured programming: weekly accountability sessions, Founders Forum, and direct office hours with studio leadership.
Become a CEO. A team that's in it with you from first customer call to Seed close and beyond.
What We're Looking For
Founder DNA
You default to action. You'd rather test something imperfect than debate something theoretical.
You're a builder at heart. Creating something from nothing is energizing, not exhausting.
You can sell. Whether it's a skeptical HR director, a future hire, or an investor.
You're resilient. You've done hard things and didn't quit when they got harder.
You're customer-obsessed. You'd rather spend an hour on the phone with a benefits manager than an hour on a slide deck.
You're coachable. You appreciate input from experienced operators and know when to take it.
Domain & Functional Fit
You have genuine interest in health, preventive care, or employer benefits. Whether from personal experience, a prior role, or both.
You understand how to sell into corporations. You're not intimidated by procurement cycles, benefits budgets, or the gap between the person who signs and the person who cares.
You're AI-native. You build and think with AI as a default.
You have enough product and technical intuition to engage meaningfully with engineering on product strategies and tradeoffs.
Practical Fit
You're based in Utah or willing to visit our Utah-based HQ regularly. In-person collaboration matters in the studio model.
You prioritize equity and long-term outcomes over near-term salary.
Prior startup or health tech experience is a plus, not a requirement. We care more about what you're capable of than what's on your resume.
Who This Is For
Coming off a startup, accelerator, or Sandbox cohort and looking for your next 0-to-1 build.
An operator at a health system, benefits platform, or employer-facing company who's ready to make the leap.
A domain expert in corporate wellness, diagnostics, or health tech with the drive and ambition to lead a company.
Someone who's been following what's happening in functional medicine and employer health and knows there's a real business to be built here, but hasn't found the right vehicle to build it.
This is a full commitment to building something with a team that's done it before. The question on both sides is the same: should we build this together?
